Oxford Saloon's Haunted Page Welcome to The Oxford Saloon & Eatery's haunted history page. Our saloon is very well known for spiritual activity ranging from mysterious noises, to objects being moved, to actual sightings and/or feelings of an invisible presence throughout the building. Below are some excerpts from sites online that have dedicated some space to the surreal happenings at The Oxford. Some of the information in the excerpts have been changed to update current ownership or tenants. Please read below and discover the spiritual side of The Oxford!
The Oxford
Saloon & Eatery, Snohomish
The saloon was established in 1910
and is one of the oldest restored saloons in the Northwest. the main floor still
has the original large oak bar. Downstairs is the comfortable Ole Time Pub and
the upper floor is occupied by Kathleen's Antiques (now The Red Door Salon), a
store named for the ghost who haunts the building. She has been seen in her
colonial dress in several places, most notably Room #5 on the second floor where
the rooms were used as a brothel at one time. The ghost of "Henry", a policeman
who died trying to break up a knife fight at the saloon, has also been seen
throughout the building. According to a Seattle Times article, staff have heard
their name called in an empty room, seen objects fall off the bar for no reason,
and find pictures hanging crooked when they had been straight moments before.
The Oxford Saloon and Eatery is at 913 First St., Snohomish, WA and is owned by
Bo, Nina, and Andrea. Phone: 360.568.3845.

The Oxford Saloon, Snohomish.
913 First St. Snohomish, 360-568-3845
The Oxford Saloon & Eatery, established in 1910, is one of the oldest restored
saloons in the northwest. Housed in the Oxford Building (built in 1889 as
Blackman Dry Goods Store) this fine old place, totally restored in 1992, has the
look and feel of an 1880's saloon. There are two floors with original and
restored fixtures of the period throughout. The main floor still has the
original large oak back bar, the moose head where patrons would pitch nickels
for beers, and Big John the Knight in Shining Armour. The back bar survived a
sailing voyage from the east coast around Cape Horn and was retrieved from the
Seattle Hotel in the late 1890's.

Snohomish - The Oxford Saloon "This old saloon
contains around 18 ghosts upstairs and down. Workers have in the past had quite
frightening experiences with spirits of the old saloon girls who operated a
brothel upstairs. A police officer that was stabbed and killed there remains,
and a young teenager who was killed in the street by a car as well. There are
too many to list, but ask someone behind the bar, and they will provide you with
a detailed list compiled by psychics.
http://theshadowlands.net/places/washington.htm This saloon used to have a brothel upstairs. It is haunted by the spirits of the old saloon girls who worked there. Also, a police officer who was stabbed to death there still remains. There are about 20 ghosts total in this saloon.
With its worn, wooden floors, funky decor and elegant antique bar, the Oxford is
a good place to soak up an atmosphere of yesteryear. It's noted for its wraps,
but I splurged on a bacon blue-cheese burger ($8.95 with fries or homemade
potato salad) and wasn't disappointed.
In truth, there's another reason I chose this haunt: It reportedly harbors at
least six ghosts.
The most famous spirit, a policeman named Henry, is pictured in a framed photo
by the stairs, along with other officers in Keystone Cops-type uniforms. He was
killed in a bar fight and is now said to inhabit the downstairs women's
restroom.
Sue Hem, a server and bartender at the Oxford for 10 years, said Henry has been
sighted by at least a few people, including a friend of her teenage niece, who
hadn't heard the legend.
"She was sitting at the bar and she just turned white," Hem recounted. "She
said, 'There was a man in a tall hat and he just walked right in here.' "
Psychics also have reported sensing the spirits of a former madam, one of her
"girls" and a "John," from the days when a brothel occupied the third floor. Hem
said one ghost, a former bar owner, has "been known to slap a few fannies."
What's more, she said, "Things will go flying off the countertop for no reason."
"Do I believe it's haunted? Oh, yeah," Hem said. "Just because I have been in a
situation a few times when it calls my name. At first I thought there was
something wrong with me. You turn around, and there's no one there. It's a
generic voice -- not male or female."
There's nothing like a good ghost story to perk up a gray
Northwest afternoon, which made this a pleasant getaway indeed.

Here's a picture of our suit of armor with a strange "orb" floating in air. We blew up the part with the "orb" in it and this is what we see! This isn't just a reflection, we've been told it is a spiritual "orb". This picture was taken on March 19th, 2008 and is totally unretouched!
In these pictures you can see an "orb" in the center of the door above the mail slot in the left picture. In the right picture, taken just a few seconds later you can see the "orb" coming up the stairs and is in the lower left of the right picture passing Andrea! Again, these are totally unretouched! |
